How We Ranked These Montreal SEO Agencies
The page relevance index is adapted from the SEO Contextual Density Index (SCDI) published by ProStar SEO. Each Montreal SEO agency’s page is measured against a fixed list of 96 terms: keyword variations, entities and industry vocabulary found on at least two pages in the group.
The index combines four criteria:
- Coverage (47.1%): the share of the 96 terms that appear on the page.
- Contextual density (23.5%): term occurrences divided by the page’s meaningful words, compared with the best density in the group.
- Efficiency (11.8%): the lowest repetition score in the group divided by the page’s own score. A page that hammers the same terms loses points.
- Structure (17.6%): the share of covered terms that appear in the page’s title or subheadings.
UCD (unique contextual density) counts each term only once. The repetition score is the ratio between CD and UCD: the higher it climbs, the more the page repeats the same words.
Brand recognition and Google reviews don’t count in the index: we rank pages, not brands. Each agency’s name is removed from the text before the calculation.
The group: eleven agencies with an office on the Island of Montreal and a page dedicated to SEO. Pages were measured on October 29, 2026, as they appear in a browser, without the header, menu or footer. Addresses were checked the same month on each agency’s official website.
The same measurement is used to build an SEO strategy: it shows which terms, content and subheadings a page is missing to gain visibility in search engines.
1. ProStar SEO: Scientific SEO

How to Choose an SEO Agency in Montreal
The best SEO agency is the one that fits your market, your budget and the way you work. Here are the five criteria that matter most when choosing an SEO agency in Montreal.
Specialized SEO Agency or Full-Service Agency
A specialized SEO agency lives off its organic results; a full-service marketing agency offers more services under one roof. If SEO is your priority, ask what share of the team works on SEO every day. A web agency or a marketing agency can deliver good content; check who leads the SEO strategy.
An SEO Method Explained in Writing
Ask the agency how it chooses keywords based on search intent and how it measures rankings, traffic, conversions and return on investment. Also ask what its SEO strategy plans for the first month. A named, documented method (contextual density, the Holistic Search approach, the BOREAL method) is easier to verify than a “custom plan” with no details.
Look at the Agency’s Own SEO Page
The page an agency dedicates to its own SEO services is a sample of its work. Does it cover the industry vocabulary? Are its subheadings clear? Does it repeat the same words in every paragraph? The table in this ranking already gives you these numbers for eleven SEO agencies in Montreal. An SEO agency that takes care of its own content will probably take care of yours.
Contract, Notice Period and Ownership of the Work
Read the commitment period before you sign: several agencies in this ranking work month to month or with 30 days’ notice. Also make sure the content created and access to your tools (Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Business Profile) belong to you. Ask for clear reports too: transparency on traffic, keywords and conversions is part of the job.
Case Studies and First-Page Promises
A useful case study gives an industry, a starting point, a timeframe and a measurable result: traffic, leads or conversions. No agency controls Google’s algorithm. A serious agency commits to a method and to monthly follow-up, never to the first page of Google for a specific keyword.
How Much Does an SEO Agency Cost in Montreal?
Based on the rates we collected from agencies that publish them, the standard price of an SEO agency in Montreal is around $2,000 per month. Here is how the observed prices break down among SEO agencies in Montreal:
| Monthly price | Share of observed prices |
|---|---|
| $1,000 | |
| $1,500 | |
| $2,000 | |
| $2,500 | |
| $3,000 and up |
Between $1,500 and $2,500 per month, you’ll find 85% of observed prices. Among the agencies in this ranking, SEO Montreal™ advertises contracts starting at $1,500 per month, Falia an SEO and GEO contract starting at $1,600, and My Little Big Web marketing contracts starting at $1,200. Your budget depends on competition in your industry, the size of your website and the amount of content to create or optimize. A more expensive contract often includes more content, more backlinks and more detailed reports. For the details, read our article on SEO pricing in Quebec.

Should you choose an SEO agency based in Montreal?
It isn’t required, but an SEO agency in Montreal knows the local market, its neighbourhoods and its bilingual audience better. More and more meetings happen remotely, which widens your options.
What does an SEO agency actually do?
An SEO agency improves a website’s visibility in Google and other search engines, without paid advertising. Its work covers audits, keyword research, content, technical SEO, meta tag optimization, backlinks, local SEO and, more and more, GEO. Our SEO services page details each of these roles.
What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO improves your rankings and visibility in search engines like Google. GEO focuses on how AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini understand your business and cite it in their answers. Every agency in this ranking now offers GEO, but the depth of the offering varies: ask how the agency measures your presence in AI answers.
How long does it take to see SEO results?
At Zenith, 85% of clients see measurable results by the third month. After that, the timeline depends on the age of your website, competition in your industry and the domain’s SEO history. A website damaged by a previous agency first needs to rebuild Google’s trust.
